ONE of the most thrilling finals on this year's athletics circuit was witnessed by a huge crowd at Tweedbank Sporting Arena last week.
And it was Selkirk High School pupil Donald Purvis, pictured above, who was causing all the fuss.

Donald cleared 1.77m in the senior high jump finals, despite carrying a foot injury, to take the title. Donald and Peebles High School entry John Hodge saw off the rest of the competitors before engaging in a fascinating battle which brought the Borders Secondary School Championships to a standstill. Both boys broke the existing record several times – Donald's winning leap is 9cm higher than the previous record.

Galashiels Academy won the annual event for the third consecutive year, amassing a 553 points, while Selkirk High School had to settle for fifth place overall on 430 points.
