CONMEN have targeted three elderly Souters in a telephone scam, writes Bob Burgess.
And that has led to one of the target’s bank accounts being hit by fraudulent transactions.

Police confirmed that on Tuesday afternoon a man claiming to represent the Bank of Scotland phoned three elderly Selkirk residents and asked for their bank details.

One of those called gave the man specific information and shortly afterwards their bank account was hit.

Sergeant Andy Leigh from police HQ in Hawick told us: “Under no circumstances would a representative of a bank require anyone to divulge personal account information over a phone, by email or by fax

“We would urge any person who received such a call to be guarded and refrain from supplying any account details.”

A police probe is under way.
