Rallying round to help out

ORGANISERS of the Selkirk Rally, which takes place every September at Sunderland Hall, have been thrown a financial lifeline.
Last year ticket sales for the event – one of the largest vintage vehicle shows in Scotland – were decimated by torrential rain, resulting in a loss of more than £8,000. With just £15,000 in the bank and facing an outlay of £30,000 to stage this year's show, organisers faced a serious funding gap.
But last week the Eildon Area Committee agreed to a request for funding from its community grant scheme.
By awarding the rally £4,880 to cover rental of the site and security cover, councillors have ensured that the event goes ahead. The committee was satisfied the event played a major role in bringing people to the Borders and boosting the local economy.
This year's rally takes place on September 21.
Organisers hope to boost revenue by increasing the admission price for an adult to £8, raising fees for stallholders and introducing an administration charge for entrants.
